Abstract
At the end of the 19th–at the beginning of the 20th century there was a rise of national cultural revival. At this time, the leading art unions of Ukraine were declaring themselves in Europe, and the totalitarian regime of the ussr was starting a new wave of terror against the intellectuals and cultural figures. Artists migrated to the west, particularly to Lviv, continuing to work in their own style, developing the achievements of folk art and avant-garde currents. Such graphic artists as Pavlo Kovzhun and Sviatoslav Hordynskyi introduce the ideas of cubism, constructivism and futurism into book design, which enables Ukrainian book art to develop in the European context, exchanging ideas and creative principles.
